Mahbubur Rahman

Residency at University of West of England

During my residency in Plymouth College of Art and Design I have done mostly three- dimensional works on ceramic. Two of them are incorporated with iron and I took the support of Raku technique to do those works. It was fun to do work on some new process. I have never tried Raku before. I have made another little piece with Raku technique as well.

One of the biggest ceramic pieces of these series of work is stoneware. It was very complicated to do large scaled clay work in wet weather and I have faced many troubles doing these works.

First of all, I used plastering as armature that is very handy process. It could hold clay strongly and could be taken out very easily. Then I did modelling on it. The portrait is like a sleeping head and a blue lotus is coming down of the neck.

In the last week of my residency in Plymouth I have developed my ideas for next residency in Bristol.I have planned to do two dimensional works in Bristol University of west England. The work will be very much based on design. My self stylistic figure will be merging with oriental design and image of found object.

I have visited the University beforehand of my residency at Bristol. So I have got my idea about the project that I would do for Britol.

Mostly I will do print  in different techniques and processes  such as  calligraphy, etching and aquatint, silkscreen with enamel paints and oil painting on digital print.

Most of the projects are based on mixed medium and obviously would be experimented to develop soft image to hard copy.

At first I will be developing images in computer and I will also use the images that I already have collected.  I am going to use the photograph of my previous work, at the same time I would like to do photograph and drawing as well.
